SMC_ Laser and Radar Security

Cover those blind spots on your campus, yard, dock, parking lot, storage areas!

Two technologies that have gained ground in the security world recently are radar and laser. Due to critical coverage needs, the industry is answering back with new and innovative ways to secure your perimeters and insure that no areas are left unprotected.

Conventional methods of covering large areas traditionally have included multiple camera locations which causes more cabling and labor, however in the past few years multiple imager cameras have seen a rise in popularity along with the use of fisheye lens cameras.  The issue with the one wide area camera lens to-rule-them-all strategy is the sensitivity of the camera and the VMS.  You can only push digital sensitivity so far when using a camera that is viewing large distances.  With laser and radar one can enhance these technologies to enhance the critical areas of your campus and not only define intruder events down to GPS coordinates but can also eliminate false threats such as animals, birds, etc.

The threat of drones have now become a reality in terms of unwanted intruders from the sky. Cameras are typically aimed at ground-based areas of vulnerability, but usually not the sky.  Radar has the ability to umbrella an area of ground and sky and can detect drone activity and then command a PTZ camera to follow the drone thereby providing much needed footage of the intruder along with alerts to various security personnel that can then enforce their security policies, etc.
