Challenge:
The plant lighting at General Cable, Sedalia, was becoming outdated and costing more to maintain. They were experiencing more frequent maintenance orders and finding it a challenge to keep up with burnt out lamps while maintaining production equipment. It was estimated that a maintenance worker was spending at least 10% of his time maintaining light fixtures. The fixtures operate 24/7 and although there was a compelling payback, they were on a strict budget.
Solution:
The engineering and maintenance team worked with SMC to identify the most effective fixtures to replace and a pace that matched their budgeting requirements. Once the fixture was identified and trial-tested, the budget allowed for 15) 6-Lamp T5HO to be replaced with 15) 24,000 Lumen Atlas High Bays ILH424LL, at a wattage reduction of more than 50% and with increased light output and quality. An ever greater benefit is the maintenance workers can now focus on maintaining production equipment instead of maintaining light fixtures..
Energy Savings:
SMC also identified additional savings in the form of a rebate through the local power company. Being a Trade Ally Partner with the utility, SMC was able to submit the rebate on behalf of the customer, making it an easy and effective LED upgrade.
